Police Officer Arrested for Joining Protesters

Thursday, July 20, 2023 –One police officer has been arrested after he reportedly participated in the ongoing anti-government protest.

The officer of Constable level working in Nzau Subcounty, Makueni County, was arrested today July 20 after he was claimed to have been spotted with protesters in the area.

He is also said to have been found in possession of illegal drugs.

Constable Evans Otieno was apprehended while engaging with a group of young men who were blocking roads and throwing stones at passing motorists on Thursday, July 20.

His actions raised suspicion, prompting authorities to investigate further before they arrested him later on in the day.

A day prior to his arrest, on July 19, Otieno was reportedly spotted with rioters who attacked the Emali Police Station and its officers.

During the officer’s arrest, a quick search revealed that he was in possession of 40 rolls of bhang, with an estimated street value of approximately sh 2,000.

This discovery compounded the seriousness of the situation, as it added a drug-related offence to his charges.

Homenews.co.ke has also established that the officer will be taken through what was termed as a transparent inquiry to find out why he had involved himself in such law-breaking activities.

His arrest is coming just a day after another police officer was subjected to disciplinary actions following his viral Tik Tok video in which he was reading anti-government comments from his followers.

A statement from the National Police Service NPS condemned and distanced itself from his actions and utterances saying this was against the standards and work ethics in the service.
