Friday, June 11, 2021 -Another huge Mugumo tree has fell in Mt. Kenya just two months after the area lost one.
Sources who reached to this desk reported that the tree fell down in Murang’a and burst into huge flames on Thursday June 10 causing terror around the neighbourhood.
Looking at the fairly long video which looks like another horror tell from movie books, the incident left the locals in shock.
Elders have weighed in and warned anyone from using any piece from the tree as firewood or for any other purposes. It is required that once such an iconic mark falls, it is left to rot slowly to the end.
According to elders from Mt. Kenya, the falling of Mugumo always signifies a bad omen for the community and for that reason it is important to start putting in place correct counter measures to fight back any such spirits which could include death and loss in leadership.
“Mugumo tree has never fallen without a profound reason. It’s the only tree which talks and a fall might signal a change of guard or a mighty occurrence,” Mbira Wa Muroki, stated.
Presence of the tree in any area, brings not only peace and calm but also can be used as an umbrella during drought seasons as is the tradition. It can live upto 500 years.
Mugumo or the fig tree dates back to the period God created the first Kikuyu man called Gikuyu and woman Mumbi then positioned them under the Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine. The couple then decided to use Mugumo and Mukurwe trees for sacrifices.
Currently the tree is used by Kikuyu community for prayers, leadership and other necessary traditions.
