Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is planning to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat against the wishes of his party, ODM.
Additionally, his party leader Raila Odinga with whom they can nolonger see eye-to-eye will not be blessing him for the seat and, instead, he(Raila) could support Johnson Sakaja or someone else.
I don’t know what plans and skills Babu Owino will apply to beat through these hurdles because politics in this country are something else.
I foresee a situation where Raila will still have a big say on who runs the Nairobi County. Babu Owino should not be fooled by Gen Zs online craze he receives everyday. If he is very keen, he need to have noticed that dust is settling down and Raila is regaining back his support bases across the country.
The idea that Raila betrayed Gen Zs is slowly fading out and, a day in politics is like a year. Moreover, should Raila clinch the AUC seat, Luos will be happy same to his support bases and, again, he will become instrumental at home. Anything he speaks will mean a lot. He may still make big decisions in 2027 election.
If he loses AUC race, here at home, he will will roar back into local politics and your guess is as good as mine.
