Saturday, September 30, 2023 –Member of Parliament MP Sabina Chege has expressed her desire to become the first female president of Kenya.
Hosted by TV 47 Willis Raburu, MP Chege said she is already dreaming of joining the presidential race in future.

“I pray that I will be the first female President of Kenya and I pray to God that that day will come. I can tell you about women and leadership. When a woman is in position, she is a mother; she can take care of everybody,” Ms Chege said.
While asked whether she will be upto the task when facing off with the male candidates in the presidential race, the politician said it may not be an easy task but she believes she is upto the task.
“Sometimes men can be abrasive and high-handed. They tend to push for things harshly,” she said.
Ms Chege’s political journey started in 2013 when she was elected Woman Representative for Murang’a County, a position she held until last year.
In the run-up to last year’s polls, Ms Chege initially declared interest in becoming the then Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate, before she eventually shifted allegiance to Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s camp.
After the polls she was nominated to the National Assembly by the Jubilee Party only for her to lead a splinter group within the party that shifted their support to President Ruto’s camp.
In the ensuing power struggles within the party, Ms Chege was nominated the acting party leader by the splinter group to replace retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Out of 28 National Executive Committee members, 24 met and said they want Sabina to be the acting party leader. I took the position with a lot of humility, not to humiliate anyone but we want to make sure that the position I have been given I can grow the Jubilee party,” she explained.

Taking into account that Jubilee has been through two elections, Ms Chege said the party’s new leadership is focused on re-establishing the party structures and sustaining the party’s longevity and viability just like Raila’s ODM Party.
