United States President Donald Trump has instructed Kenyans living in the United States of America illegally to plan deporting self-back to Kenya.
According to the International Migrant Stock 2020 dataset by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the US hosts the highest number of Kenyan migrants at 157,000 out of which 30,000 are unlawful immigrants and at risk of being permanently locked out of the U.S.
“People in our county unlawfully can self-deport the easy way or they can get deported the hard way. My administration is launching the CBP Home app to give people in our country unlawfully an opportunity to leave now and self-deport voluntarily if they do, they could potentially have the opportunity to return legally in the future,” Trump announced.
“If they do not avail themselves of this opportunity, then they will be found, they will be deported and they will never be admitted to the United States again,” the president revealed.
The U.S government is using the App to encourage such immigrants to leave before U.S. officials apprehend them and remove them from the country forcefully.
In the App, an immigrant is required to register their intent to depart, register their name, and address, upload a photo, and declare if they have enough money to leave the country.
