Monday, September 12, 2022 –New Deputy Governor Kakamega County, Mr. Ayub Savula, has continued with his early onslaught against his boss, Fernandes Barasa.
In another clip just a day after promising to bolt out of Azimio la Umoja for William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza, Savula is now demanding a half of the county government slots.
The former Lugari Member of Parliament told mourners on Sunday September 11 that he had a pre-election agreement with Mr. Barasa on how to share their government saying the covenant was to share a half of the appointments and that he will be taking nothing less than that.
In the Sunday viral clip, he goes ahead to assert that he is not a deputy governor but a co-governor in Kakamega County government despite the position not being in the Constitution.
He has since sounded a warning that he will require nothing less than 50 percent share in the county government likening this to the last Uhuru-Ruto government where the DP had a half of the share attributed to his contribution in its formation.
He also reasoned that in Kenya Kwanza agreement, Ruto had already started honouring the 30 percent he promised both Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi.
“I am not a deputy governor. I am a co-governor in Kakamega County. That was our agreement. Just like president William Ruto promised Wetang’ula and Mudavadi 30% of government we see him living to that promise. In Azimio Fernandes Barasa and I must keep our word. Fifty Fifty so that I get a chance to appoint five County Executive Committee members” he charged.
This early trouble, according to pundits, is fueled by the fact that Azimio lost the presidency and Kenya Kwanza won the seat forcing those who had banked their hopes on Raila to quickly move back to Ruto’s side for protection.
In an earlier statement, Savula claimed that he was forced to join Azimio so that the Dirtectorate of Crminal Investigations DCI could spare him over the many graft cases which had been leveled against him and his two wives.
Savula and Baras’sa life at the helm of the county may not turn so good owing to the fact that the former is a political activist who may not find it enough to work under anybody.
His Democratic Action Party of Kenya DAP-Kenya has, however, released a comprehensive statement promising to support the elected governor for the sake of the people of Kakamega.
