Tuesday, July 23, 2024 ––Darren walker, Ford Foundation president, has resigned after 12 years of service in the noble multinational organisation.
Philanthropic Walker made the news on Monday July 22, by announcing his stepping down from the role so that to give the organisation a fresh leadership.
Speaking to the New York Times, the 64-year-old philanthropist disclosed he would be quitting his position as the company’s boss at the end of 2025.
According to Walker, it was significant to have a change of the guard. He revealed he had begun discussing his departure with the board two years ago.
“Philanthropy as a field needs new leaders and a constant refreshing because as a sector we can be self-satisfied and lose the edge to our work,” Walker told the New York Times.
His resignation coming at the time Kenyan president William Ruto is blaming the organisation for fanning and funding the ongoing Gen Zs demonstrations.
Ruto singled out, particularly the Ford Foundation, saying it has been sponsoring civil societies to create unrest around the country in the name of fighting for human rights.
In a subsequent alarming rooftop address in Bomet County, Ruto, instead challenged the Foundation and other like minded non-governmental agencies to come forward and help him with best ideas on how to lead the nation for prosperity.
