Tuesday, October 1, 2024 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Rift Valley leaders of orchestrating war against him in a bid to oust him from government.
In his Monday interview captured by a section of the media, the DP shared lamentations about MPs and aides to the president from the Rift Valley who are not happy with him serving in that position despite his immense input.
He claimed that MPs from President William Ruto’s backyard have been hurling insults at him and showing him a lot of disrespect despite him being an elected DP.
“Rift valley MPs abuse me any time after drinking alcohol. I will show you, off camera, the messages which are in my phone. I have shared this with President Ruto.
“For instance, another MP came here on Saturday at 12 and when he heard that I am still held up a bit, he ran amok and started hurling insults at me. He was to come at 12PM and he came at 11AM a time I had even not told my security about him because I knew time was still there,” Gachagua accused.
The DP also pointed out how long-time aide to President William Ruto, Farouk Kibet, has been poisoning MPs from Mt. Kenya with 2032 promises.
He stated that Farouk has been using money and State resources to fuel friction around Mt. Kenya; something that Gachagua has not been happy with.
The DP said he has complained this to his boss President William Ruto but, upto now, no measure had been taken to contain the situation.
“I am asking Rift Valley MPs to leave me alone. Let me be respected elsewhere. I helped president to get to office. I even helped most of them in the last campaign but if they cannot respect me, it is okay. This I have pleaded with my boss alot of times,” he disclosed.
Talking about his impeding impeachment and his wealth that makes major part of the charges he is supposed to face in the Parliament today Tuesday during the impeachment exercise, Gachagua said he it is misleading for some people to claim that he using stolen money to buy hotels.
The DP explained that he became rich way before becoming the deputy president as by 2018 he was worth 12.4 billion and 2022 be had added his wealth by 7.4 billion.
He, therefore, defended his wealth saying the multimillion Tree Top Hotel acquired by his family resulted from loans borrowed by his children.
Gachagua noted that, it would be wrong for anyone to expect him to stop his children from conducting genuine business with private sector.
