Friday, July 21, 2023 –Government has broken silence hours after the officers believed to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI raided Uhuru Kenyatta’s eldest son’s home in Karen, Nairobi.
Addressing the matter today Friday July 21 evening, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said 23 firearms were recovered from three homes in Karen, in an operation conducted in the area.
Government has claimed that the three homesteads are reasonably suspected to be availing firearms not only for purposes of supporting violent protests, but also other illegal activities in the country.
Prof Kindiki, however, in his statement on the Karen raid, did not refer to the alleged raid at Uhuru’s son Jomo Kenyatta’s home.
He said the firearms were recovered on Friday afternoon following an operation launched after establishing that the haven was the key source of weapons used during Azimio demos.
“Today afternoon, an operation has been going on targeting three homesteads within the Karen area where a total of 23 firearms, some of which are suspected to have been used in illegal activities are kept,” he said.
The CS said such operations will continue until every illegal weapon or gun is recovered from criminals and returned to the State.
But Mr. Kenyatta, while addressing a press conference at the son’s Karen home hours ago, alluded that the alleged raid focused on recovering weapons which his family is holding legally.
“How many people in Kenya have licensed weapons even foreigners? Si we followed the procedure. So you withdrew their security so they are not supposed to defend themselves? What more do you want now?” Uhuru asked.
The former President also said he is not aware of anyone who is funding the Azimio la Umoja activities in the country.
He instead, said he has been busy globetrotting to preach peace in parts of Africa; and challenged the current government to stop intimidating his mother and children but to come for him, directly.
