Thursday, September 12, 2024 –Government has released a statement distancing itself from a fundraiser organised to raise funds for Hon. Raila Odinga’s campaigns for the African Union Commission chairmanship.
Reacting to the statement issued by Friends of Raila dubbed FOBA on Wednesday September 11, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Singoei, disassociated the State from the plan.
“We disassociate the Secretariat of the Campaign of H.E. Raila Odinga from this fundraising effort,” he responded.
Prof Makau Mutua who is in the campaign secretariat quickly agreed with the PS stand on the fundraiser, hence raising speculations as to who could be behind the questionable event slated September 18th.
“Join us on September 18, 2024 in Nairobi as we unite with leaders and dignitaries from across the continent to help champion Africa’s future,” partly read the invite.
Odinga, who has temporarily relinquished his position as Party leader Orange Democratic Movement ODM to Prof. Anyang Nyong’o, has officially embarked on his campaign journey with the help of the Kenyan government led by President William Ruto.
He is eying the AUC top seat as its chair in an election to take place next year in February.
