Treasury CS John Mbadi has expressed a concern on the amount of money spend in government every month saying it is too high for this economy.
Addressing this issue on JKL show on Wednesday, Mbadi noted that the current government is bloated and very expensive to depend on the local taxes alone.
“We have a very expensive government. Today we are paying 80 billion per month at the national government level for salaries. Per year it is 960 billion and we are collecting 2.5 trillion and we are spending on loan repayment about 1.1 trillion, so where do you get money for development?” he stated.
He said, this country has been surviving on foreign loans, grants and other development partners who have been bringing into the country extra monies, sometimes, for free.
The CS, however, said, it is reaching a time the country must hold this conversation together so that to reduce this pressure on the National Treasury.
