Thursday, November 30, 2023 –Digital strategist for President William Ruto has asked those arresting bloggers to stop.
In stern statement he delivered today Thursday November 30, Mr. Itumbi said the president is not bothered with what bloggers are doing and, therefore, anybody sanctioning the arrests and intimidations must be stopped.
He vehemently disagreed with a section of State officers who are behind the arrest of Nuru Okanga – a die-hard supporter of the opposition wing.
“I completely disagree with the idea of arresting bloggers for insulting the president. Whoever is doing it wacheni kabisa,” he stated in an official statement seen by Kenyawide.com.
Mr. Itumbi also offered to foot the legal bill for Nuru Okanga’s lawyers so that to secure his freedom following the arrest that took place days ago.
“Please wakili, if Nuru Okanga agrees represent him in court at my cost. There actually exists a right to offend, shock, or disturb. I know for a fact that President Ruto has serious stuff to do and is not interested in such drama and arrests, he does not even know about it. So who exactly is the complainant? Wachaneni na bloggers, wajiexpress! Tafuteni kazi ingine,” added Itumbi.
Nuru Okanga found himself on the wrong side of the law after reportedly making utterances against the head of State. This being his signature way of doing politics.
The Orange Democratic Movement ODM activist has since been charged for insulting president William Ruto, through his political YouTube account.
Today Thursday, Mr. Okanga who appeared before Nairobi chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, denied the criminal charge.
According to the prosecution, the accused printed and uttered the abusive words on 20th November 2023.
The court was told that the accused(Okanga) uttered the words that are contrary to Section 23 of the cyber crime Act.
The accused was apprehended on 29th November 2023 and taken to Central police station Nairobi before the prosecution preferred criminal charges against him.
