Saturday, August 2, 2024 ––Nominated Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has agreed with the United Democratic Alliance UDA Party philosophy of the Bottom up economic transformation.
Mbadi, while addressing questions from the grilling panel at Parliament today Saturday August 3, said, both ODM and UDA parties are social democrats which can easily work together for a common goal.
“The ’ bottom-up’ approach is a Kenya Kwanza philosophy but if you look at ODM’s philosophy, there’s no difference; the two parties are social democrats,” he told the panel.
He had been asked by Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed on what he thinks about the Bottom Up approach in Kenya Kwanza government which he is joining as cabinet secretary for Treasury.
Mbadi also delved into his conduct as a person saying he believes in standing for the truth and that this cannot mean disrespecting anyone.
“Those who know me, know my levels of firmness, but that does not mean I am disrespectful. You must know who your boss is and where your loyalty lies. I have on several occasions disagreed with my party leader who was my boss at the party, but I don’t talk about it,” he told the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, today.
The ODM stalwart assured the interviewing panel that, despite working under the president, he will remain loyal to the Constitution and that any attempts to make him compromise his integrity will be defeated.
And speaking on taxation, the former ODM Party chairman proposed that there is urgent need to simplify tax systems and laws.
“When taxpayers realise that it is difficult, complicated and costly, they will not comply. We must lower the cost of compliance to taxations,” he noted.
He also assured that all authentic bills will be paid the soonest and that, going forward, there will be no accumulation of bills.
