Monday, September 39, 2024 –Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir who is at the center of abduction of a local blogger in Mombasa has broken his silence.
In a press briefing held outside County headquarters on Monday September 30, the governor described those linking him to the ugly abduction of a local blogger, Bruce John, as his political detractors.
Addressing immediately after his right-hand man also Mombasa County Executive Committee Member for Lands Mohamed Hussein, alias Amadoh, Abdulswamad noted that he is not aware of what happened to the blogger and that everything he is accused of is political.
“I’ve been in politics for in excess of a decade and throughout my life, neither myself nor any of my family members have ever crossed the line of meeting any form of violence on anyone,” he said. “When I go out on public platforms, my policy is a policy of never mentioning anyone, talking vulgarly, or doing anything.”
“It’s a bit shocking that it is now being deemed for the public perception that both myself and my 74-year-old mother would be part and parcel of a heinous act of this magnitude. We have never nor will we ever stoop that low.”
He added that this is one of the trying moments in his life but exuded confidence that he will overcome it.
But the victim of the abduction, while speaking to the media from his hospital bed, said, the people who abducted him are close to the governor and that he also heard the voice of the governor on phone of one of the gang members.
Bruce, while sobbing in tears, said he went through a very horrifying moment as over 20 men sodomised him in turns before leaving him to die by the road side.
He also said the governor bought the crew lunch after they had assaulted him.
