Saturday, September 30, 2023 -Anne Nderitu, Registrar of Political Parties, has dismissed calls by a section of Kenyans to stop funding political parties.
The Registrar instead called for an increase in funding of the political parties for democracy purporses.
Nderitu warning to those against funding
She said any attempt to scrap off the budget will not only undermine the operations of political parties but also violate the Constitution.
“Hiyo mjadala ya kusema pesa za vyama itolewe kwa bajeti..sisi hatukubaliani nayo…sisi tunataka pesa hizo ziongezwe ili kupatie vyama nguvu zaidi…uchumi ni mbaya lakini pesa pia tunasema itaongezwa polepole hadi ifike 0.3 percent,” she said.
The Political Parties Act of 2011 designates 0.3 per cent of the national government revenue to finance the activities of political parties.
