Wednesday, August 7, 2024 – The University of Nairobi Council on Monday announced the appointment of Prof Margret Jesang’ Hutchinson as acting Vice-Chancellor.
Jesang, who has been serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE), will assume the new role for a period of three months.
However, the suspended VC, Professor Stephen Kiama, has vowed to challenge his removal from office in court.
Kiama was suspended last week for three months by the University Council, which then appointed Jesang’ in an acting capacity until the disciplinary case against Kiama is concluded.
Reports indicate that Prof Kiama’s request for renewal of his contract, which ends in January 2025, has been declined by the council. The embattled UON boss might be forced to proceed to his terminal leave after the lapse of his suspension.
The acting VC has however announced that she will spearhead transformative changes at the institution.
