Thursday, September 21, 2023 –President William Ruto has mourned a Nairobi DJ and Gengetone producer Byron Muhando Kivizi who has died.
In his Thursday September 21 statement, the President noted with concern that this country has lost a talented music producer who once worked with him in producing the remix of Sipangwingwi( I make own decisions) song that he used during his last year’s campaigns.
“Byron was first introduced to me by music sensation Xray during a music recording session of the hit song Sipangwingwi at the Deputy President’s residence in Karen,” Ruto said in the statement.
He described the artist as one collected young man whose demeanor was unmatched and an acclaimed music maker in the Kenya.
“Deeply saddened by the death of music producer and artist Byron Muhando Kivisi.
“I recall with fondness his calm and collected demeanour, but more importantly his immense talent that made him an acclaimed music producer,” President Ruto mourned further.
The head of State said, it is disheartening that this country has lost Byron at his prime age having helped churn out great hits among young urban musicians and rappers.
“We are comforted by the fact that his works of art will live on. To the family, friends and his fans, accept our sincere condolences. Rest In Peace, Byron,” Dr. Ruto added.
During his last year general election campaigns, Kenya Kwanza and, in particular, Dr. William Ruto, used X-Ray popular song Sipangwingwi to endear himself to the young suffering masses but who are ready to make decisive and bold step in life by bringing change through the ballot.
Ruto could then go ahead to do a remix of Sipangwingwi hit song with artist X-ray.
And making the confirmation on Kivisi’s death, his family has revealed the tragic cause of his unexpected passing.
According to Leonard Aluda Muhali, a close family member, Byron Kivisi, a multi-talented creative force behind some of Kenya’s most prominent music hits, such as ‘Sipangwingwi’ and ‘Usherati,’ suffered a fatal arterial rupture.
“Byron Kivisi, the beloved son of Evans Muhali, tragically suffered an arterial rupture yesterday morning. We pray for his soul to rest in eternal peace,” Aluda said.


Byron Kivisi was celebrated for his exceptional talent in producing chart-topping songs that became iconic in the Kenyan music landscape among the Gengetone community
Byron Kivisi’s body has been taken to Kenyatta University Morgue and his final resting place will be in Maragoli Bugina Village, Vihiga county. The burial ceremony is scheduled for October 7.
