Wednesday, September 4, 2024 –President William Ruto has continued to campaign for Africa Union Commission AUC Candidate Raila Odinga.
In a series of statements and photos shared with the public today Wednesday, President Ruto held bilateral talks with several African heads of State and Government on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing, China.
Ruto seized the opportunity to discuss Africa matters with fellow leaders including leaders from Togo, Mali, Rwanda, Guinea-Bissau, Chad, and Zambia.
“Among other issues, they discussed Raila’s candidacy for the Chairperson of the AU Commission. President Ruto also emphasised Kenya’s commitment to enhancing trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area and called for Pan-African unity to address shared goals, such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and UN reforms,” statement from his communication team read in part
With Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema, Dr. Ruto said, Kenya has a rich history with Zambia that dates back many decades. That the ties have brought immense benefits to both ends.
“We will continue to enhance our collaboration in trade, agriculture and ICT as members of COMESA,” remarked President Ruto.
He also met Chad President Mahamat Idriss with whom they deliberated on many developmental aspects including next Africa leadership and elections.
He noted that Kenya and Chad are exploring areas of cooperation to enhance their diplomatic relations in areas of mutual interest, including trade, regional security and climate action.
Dr. Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga flew to China days ago where, on behalf of Kenya, has also sealed a number of deals with the Chinese government.
At the sidelines of Beijing conference, Raila, on his behalf, confirmed seizing the moment to engage with a dynamic array of African leaders where together with Ruto, they presented bold plans for AU reforms and his candidacy for AUC chairman.
