hursday, February 11, 2021 -First County Assembly has rejected the Building Bridges Initiative BBI Bill.
On Thursday February 1, news emerged that Baringo County Assembly which Gideon Moi comes from had totally refused to approve the Bill.
There was witnessed ugly scuffles in the Assembly triggering police to lob teargas in the debating chamber where the MCAs were engaging in physical confrontations.
According to sources, the fight resulted from different opinions from legislator allied to two worrying groups – one of Gideon Moi and the other which believes in William Ruto ideologies.
KANU members appeared to support the BBI Referendum Bill 2020 while Jubilee wing which is linked to the Deputy President vowed to reject it.
It is reported that Gideon Moi has been out trying to persuade members to support and pass the Bill so that to save him from the embarrassment while his home rival William Ruto has been playing smart to out do him.
Ruto’s team ague that the whole BBI thing is shrouded in mystery and therefore a product of undemocratic process.
In his efforts to urge the members to pass the Bill once its tabled, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju invited the Baringo MCAs in Nairobi where he held a candid talk with all of them.
According to the footage of what transpired on Wednesday, one MCA is heard confronting Tuju and openly telling him that he(Tuju) was interfering with party’s stability.
“When did you sit and discuss the party position? Did you call the Deputy President or the Deputy Secretary-General? Your message is similar to the one which Senator Gideon Moi sent to us on WhatsApp, which seems as though you are taking instructions from an external source,” the politicians ranted as Tuju gestured to him to go on “fungua roho (speak openly)”.
Already a total of three counties – Siaya, Kisumu and Homabay – have since passed the Bill which requires only 21 more counties to sail through upto the Referendum level.
