The upcoming general election could see two ODM Party leaders – MPs Tim Wanyonyi and Babu Owino – clash for Nairobi County.
The duo which has already showed interest in the city leadership has vowed to run for it no matter what may; setting stage for very competitive party primaries.
However, as it stands to date, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino wants it whether he is endorsed by his party or not. On the other hand, Tim Wanyonyi has said it is his time and owing to the fact that he was denied this chance last time, he also wants it come what may.
This means Hon. Raila Odinga who always decides who runs for what seat where could face a paradox of choice crisis should he decide to veer off these two allies.
Now, my understanding about this is that Babu will be going for this seat independently. Tim, on the other hand, may find blessings from the ODM Party leader a plus for him. Then what happens from there?
As it is now, Tim is a good leader and has recorded zero controversy throughout his leadership in Westlands Constituency.
Tim has won Westlands seat now three times undefeated and he can win it again and again effortlessly because he is performer. A performer he is.
Nairobi County residents, therefore, have his track record good. He can attract both the old and the young at the same time. He can easily get blessings from his Party leader, as well.
On the other hand, MP Babu Owino who seemingly wants to become a self-made governor, may be a darling of the youths and few women at the same time. He may, however, have to share his youths and women voting bloc with Tim because Tim is also good in that area. Babu, also sees himself as a performer. Not quite sure!
So what happens when they become equal rivals? Definitely, Nairobi may have to decide between the two and me thinks the final winner could be Tim Wanyonyi whom Raila will have blessed.
What I am saying is that do not ignore Raila factor in any election just because of what you may think he wronged people of late; realise that a typical Kenyan voter doesn’t take serious what you call mistakes. They vote recklessly and that is why they couldn’t reject Babu Owino despite his still fresh criminal record. They also elected Ruto despite his past and went ahead to elevate Anne Waiguru to governor position. No voter raised a finger over her historic NYS saga.
A Kenyan voter just votes.
