Wednesday, August 21, 2024 –County Government of Homa Bay has made official clarifications on why it ordered demolishing of a sh 100 million factory.
Earlier reports had indicated that the Governor ordered its destruction so that to build his office at the site what she has refuted saying the factory had issues with meeting the required building and environmental standards.
Terming the reports as misleading, the Homa Bay boss noted that the project had not met the legal approvals from agencies like NEMA, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
She added that the factory building was too close with about 300 meters to the Kabunde Airstrip; what is dangerous according to Aviation laws.
“Animal feed manufacturing was incompatible with the flight path and risk of bird strikes. The area has since been re-planned under the Physical Planning Act
“The animal feeds project was moved to the County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Riwa Special Economic Zone,” Governor Wanga clarified.
It was due to these reasons that the building remained unfinished for long hence becoming a ghost project in the county.
She disclosed further details that the structure was launched and started in 2014 and after being abandoned due to its standards, it continued deteriorating over time.
Today Wednesday August 21, social media went on fire as sections accused the governor of pulling down the factory to pave way for her office.
