Thursday, April 15, 2021 -Former football star Dennis ‘Menace’ Oguta Oliech has been trending through a viral clip he appeared desperately talking about his financial challenges.
In the brief clip which he was responding to an interview with a local channel, Oliech recounted how he spent his football fortune to his ailing kin – Mother and Brother – who both died of Cancer.
Oliech explained that he had to cough out a whopping sh 124 million in support of their treatment in and outside the country.
“My mom nilispend 40 million na Kevin nilispend around 84 million hakuna vile utakuwa na property and your brother…. utafanyia nini hiyo property?” he can be heard breaking down the expenditure figures on live show.
The former Harambee Stars Captain who has seemingly run broke like a church mouse with no investment left in his name is not the man Kenya once respected as a millionaire and a star.
During his prime days in football, he used to earn sh 100 million is salary and allowances in France as well as millions of money from clubs in Qatar and UAE. He is also on record burning sh 300,000 on a single bottle of Whiskey around the city every weekend.
Somewhere in 2017, Oliech reported how he had been requested by his Fc Nantes management to rejoin the club for a monthly pay of 250,000 Euros or sh 30.4 million which translated into sh 8 million per week.
“I landed a one-year deal with French Ligue 1 club FC Nantes, which will see me stay at the club till the end of 2018. I will return to Kenya in May, 2018 during the break. My monthly salary at the football club will be 250,000 Euros (Ksh30.4 million) a month. The signing will cost FC Nantes 4 million Euros (Ksh486 million),” said Oliech on phone from Dubai in 2017.
At around the same time, he was seen flaunting a 102, 092 Euros (KSh 11 million) worth of Porsche Macan Turbo; a car he had its log book at home.
The rise and fall of the ‘Menace’ reads like a story of Simon Makonde – a man who was born on a Monday, baptized next Tuesday, got married on Wednesday, taken ill on Thursday, died on Saturday and buried on Sunday.
