Friday, March 24, 2023 – Kenyans have exposed Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI for misinforming the public on the ongoing Azimio’s mass action.
NTV, on Friday March 24, unraveled the truth surrounding the series of photos the DCI had posted in the morning purporting to incriminate some youth in the ongoing Azimio la Umoja protests.
The Tv Station, while deconstructing blow-by-blow the post made by the top investigative organ in the country, established that most of the photos published and purported to be from Monday demos were actually not from Monday’s demonstrations.
The DCI, therefore, knowingly, willingly and with intent, chose, unapologetically, to publish false and misleading information to be consumed by members of the public.
Looking at the photos on their wall, some were published by international media outlets in 2007, some 2013 and some 2022.
For instance, there is a photo which is being sold by Getty Images and which dates back many years ago.
“Something that our @DCI_Kenya has never known is that so many foreigners follow them as a way of gauging the security situation in the country before they visit as tourists.. I have had foreigners telling me they can’t visit Kenya because it’s insecure which hurts my feelings,” John Kamau commented.
Another photo was published in Congo during their past protests while other photos were fetched from Ruanda’s deadly genocide.
NTV’s Brian Obuya, while airing the news piece on Tv Prime Time, deconstructed DCI narrative and wondered what happens to those who rely on any information from the DCI which is supposed to exhibit high standards of honest and trust.
Upto now, the investigating agency has not tendered any apology to the members of the public despite the outrage.
