Sunday, July 16, 2023 -Government has allowed Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance politicians to go on with their protests next week but within a 12-hour time frame.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki who was speaking at Kaanwa Catholic Church in Tharaka Nithi today Sunday July 16, warned that, though, the Constitution allowed picketing, this must be done not only within the law but also within legal time frame.
“While the government has not banned public rallies and gatherings, the Law clearly allows such rallies to be held between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm,” Prof Kindiki stated.
The CS seized the opportunity to warn all retired politicians to adhere to the rule of law or be held squarely responsible for their unlawful public conduct.
Prof Kindiki said this in reference to the rumour that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was the prime financier of the ongoing chaos in the country.
“They should not resort to blackmail, sabotage, and other dirty means to interfere with the government agenda,” Kindiki noted.
Elsewhere, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of financing the Raila Odinga’s Azimio protests.
Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Bahati Cathedral, the Roads and Transport CS remarked that it was Uhuru’s influence pushing the opposition not to call off their countrywide protests.
Murkomen asked the former head of State to consider the peace of the nation and prevail upon Raila as fast as he could so that calm and development can be restored.
