Tuesday, August 15, 2023 –Narok County Senator Ledama Ole Kina has rubbished the planned Devolution Conference taking place in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County
Reacting just a day after it was confirmed that opposition leader Raila Odinga who is his party boss will be addressing, Ole Kina now says the conference has been and still is a waste of public resources and time.
He, therefore, confirmed that he will not be attending the hyped event which will officially be opened by President William Ruto today.
“The devolution Conference is a waste of public money. It is a boys and girls club to parade themselves to talk about nothing and I won’t be attending,” he said on Tuesday August 15.
Speaking today, Mr. Ledama equated the conference to a boys and girls club where all they will do is talk about nothing substantial to help the poor Kenyans languishing in abject poverty and hopelessness.
His remarks come ahead of the beginning of the devolution conference that will see governors, senators and other leaders converge to discuss the future of devolved units.
President William Ruto is expected to officially open the conference on Tuesday, August 15, and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair is among the dignitaries expected to attend and address.
Media has been told that more than 10,000 participants, both local and international, are expected to attend the event which will end on August 19.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has also been invited to make a key note speech in the event, same to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who will be closing.
