Thursday, February 1, 2024 -Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party had officially distanced itself from the petition filed in the Supreme Court by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Wetang’ula ran back to the courts in their bid to overturn the Appeal Court decision on the housing levy.
The speaker is acting on express instructions from government of Kenya which had vowed to push back against a series of court rulings that didn’t go in their favour.
But in response following the filed case, the Raila-led party ODM, took to it’s social media avenues to disown the entire exercise.
“It should go on record that the ODM PG and by extension the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition PG is not party to the appeal in the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the Housing Levy.
“We stand with the people of Kenya on this matter,” the statement dated Wednesday January 31 read in full.
So far, the courts have managed to deal a blow on the housing levy as well as the Haiti matter where Kenyans police are expected to move for a peace-keeping mission.
In that regard, President William Ruto who is dissatisfied with the courts verdict on his plans has promised to soldier on saying some important matters will force him to ignore court orders.
He has not once accused the Judiciary of perpetrating corruption in the guise of upholding the rule of law.
Ruto also promised to spearhead an exercise meant to clean away any corrupt elements within the Judiciary.
The commander-in-chief, few weeks ago, hosted Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Statehouse to agree on how to deal with corrupt judges who are seemingly blocking government programmes.
