Monday, November 7, 2022 –Several Twitter users may end up losing their accounts in the new purge announced by the owner, Elon Musk.
Making the warning on Sunday November 6 evening, Musk stated that accounts which have no clear ownership, impersonating others and do not have a disclaimer indicating they are parody, will be banned permanently.
The new Twitter Inc. owner went ahead to clarify that Twitter used to warn such account owners before deleting them but, this time around, there will be no warnings.
He cautioned that there is no more room for errors as Twitter makes new changes in its efforts to change the face of social media consumption globally.
“Going forward, any Twitter handle engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended.
“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning,” Musk posted.
The billionaire also announced that the new measures will see several lose their verification checkmark if they happen to change their names.
The new rule saw popular American comedian Kathy Graffin become the first casualty for impersonating Mr. Elon Musk.
Reacting on the matter, Musk said she was wrong and though her account had temporarily been suspended, this will be restored at a fee of $8.
