Sunday, February 21, 2021 -Rumour about the coming together of two political heavyweights – Raila Odinga and William Ruto – is good news for their supporters but cannot be the best idea for either.
Ruto-Raila alliance would definitely send shivers down spines of any other formation in the country because their numbers are staggering and no one can dare stand against that.
The possibility of that formation was hinted at recently by Raila Odinga’s statement asking MPs not to criminalize Ruto’s Hustler ideology. The statement shut down everyone who has been accusing the DP of that dangerous campaign mantra. And the main reason why Odinga decided to publicly defend Ruto still remains a mystery since it came at a less expected time.
“As I have explained on several occasions, “hustlers vs dynasties” is a dangerous slogan. However, I would strongly appeal to Members of Parliament to drop any attempts to legislate against this otherwise deadly slogan,” Mr Odinga statement read in part.
Granted, shall the two decide to pull a surprise and work together for 2022 stab, this will be another shocker story that will trend for years.
However, Raila and William Ruto will and can never last in the same government. They will clash at all levels – during sharing of slots as well as during their governance – and finally one will have to eject the other. The reason is obvious that Ruto’s working pattern and Raila’s leadership ideology will always clash just like it happened when they entered into a Grand Coalition with Kibaki. Raila had to quickly tame Ruto. So therefore, these two guys will never last together even if they happen to win an election in 2022.
Remember, Odinga will not want anyone who outshines him, but unfortunately, Ruto is that type and to make this even worse, the culture of cutting deals in government will aggravate that matter more.
