Friday, March 5, 2021 -Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party has reacted to the just concluded Matungu by-election in which they lost to Amani National Congress ANC.
Speaking through their Party’s Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen, Raila termed the results as impressive since they gave the defending Party ANC a befitting competition.
According to the party’s statement, getting 10,565 votes was remarkable for their team because the winning team ANC got 14,260 which is slim margin that still proves the ODM Party was still a force to reckon with in the region.
ODM has claimed that ANC only managed to claim victory after teaming up with Ford Kenya, Wiper and KANU; without them, things would have taken a different turn.
“Even though the result is not exactly what we had aimed for, coming a very strong second with close to 11,000 votes against 14,000 combined efforts of ANC, Ford Kenya, KANU and Wiper parties confirms that ODM remains the party to beat nationally,” said Ong’wen.
Ruto’s party which fronted Alex Lanya came a distant third despite all the efforts they put into the election. Lanya got only 5,513 votes.
After this win, Mudavadi termed it a referendum test for Luhya unity. He added that the outcome was a clear communication to outsiders that there was Luhya unity since both the ANC and Ford Kenya Parties had all won their respective races.
