Wednesday, January 19, 2022 –High Court has stopped any prosecution of tycoon businessman Jimi Wanjigi who was arrested yesterday after a 20-hour long chase.
Mr. Wanjigi appeared today Wednesday January 19 in the Nairobi court after he was arrested at his Kwacha offices in Westlands over fraudulent claims. He was reported to have involved himself in a land transaction without valid ownership documents.
It was reported earlier that the mogul had refused to take plea after he cited the active court order stopping his prosecution.
Led by Lawyer Willis Otieno, he explained to Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi that they had a valid court order which doesn’t allow him in court.
“The order was issued on January 18, advanced copies served on the respondents at 3.30PM or thereabout.
“It is an insult to this judicial process for the same respondents to purport to arrest, seek to register or continue with any charges,” Otieno stated.
This saw the ODPP side ask for more time to verify the order what led the court to adjourn the session for sometime.
Wanjigi’s lawyer told the court that officers from the Anti-terror Police Unit ATPU had destroyed property worth sh 10 Million at his clients presmises.
