Friday, March 18, 2022 –Singer Kevin Kioko aka Bahati has been approved by Jubilee Party as their candidate for Mathare Constituency.
The gospel-turned-secular artiste was officially unveiled on Friday March 18 morning by Jubilee Party officials at their headquarters based in Pangani, Nairobi.
Present during the function was Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega and other party officials all who expressed their gratitude to the singer for choosing the ruling party.
Bahati disclosed that he had to finally make the bold move after thorough consultations with friends, family and relatives.
“For the longest time, we have not had a leader who is born and raised in Mathare. I want to officially state that I am vying for the Mathare Parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
“Our people have been crying over the same issues and when you are led by an outsider, they fail to understand the sufferings of the people,” the Sweet Darling composer added.
Commenting on the development, MP Kega assured the Adhiambo hit maker that they will do all that they can to support his bid.
“Welcome to the party. You will be taken around so that you can tell us which party you will be vying for. We have tickets for all positions except the presidency,” he stated.
Kega who is the current Director of Elections in Jubilee Party said the entry of Bahati into politics was an added advantage to Jubilee since his name resonates well with the youth in the country.
Bahati’s ties with Jubilee stretches back in 2017 when he was part of the key entertainers in many of the Jubilee Party events. In one of his shows, he went as far as sitting on the president’s chair; a stunt that elicited mixed reactions.
Bahati’s entry into the mucky waters of politics adds the to the swelling list of musicians eying for various parliamentary seats across the country among them entertainers like Jalang’o(Lang’ata), Jaguar(Starehe) and MC Jesse.
