Saturday, April 17, 2021 -President Uhuru Kenyatta’s think-tank has reportedly found a better way of coming up with one saleable presidential candidate for 2022 elections.
In the new strategy as mentioned by the Saturday Nation issue of April 17, the think tank wants Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi to vie separately against William Ruto, a move that will force the country to witness a run off.
That during the first round, it will be hard for anyone to emerge the winner with 50 plus one vote percentage; what will send everyone back to the drawing; but this time around, whoever would have emerged the best among the trio of Kalonzo, Raila and Musalia- will be backed up by the rest including the Statehouse.
At that rate, the publication observed that it will probably be hard for Ruto to win in either rounds what then will hand victory to the other group.
This, according to well placed sources, will also give Mr. Kenyatta an easy time to now support the automatic candidate who would have won among the three. This strategy, some think, will be a plus for Raila who has enough political clout to beat the rest hence the best man to face off with Mr. Ruto in the run off. Experts however say it is early to detect who will be the strong person from the opposition team due to the usual dynamics which may include vote rigging.
One major upside of this new strategy is that it will settle for once the current divisions witnessed in the opposition camp.
But weighing on the development, Analyst Herman Manyora has argued that shall such a strategy backfire in the event Ruto attains 50 plus one vote in the first round, the game will be as good as over.
