Two Tana River MPs Finally Rescued Alive

Sunday, December 3, 2023 –Garsen Constituency Member of Parliament MP Wario Guyo and Galole’s Haribae Saidi Buya have been rescued from a stuck boat.

The two lawmakers were among the 18 Kenyans who, on Saturday, went  missing in the middle of their journey before being located today Sunday December 3.

“We are pleased to announce that our MPs Ali Wario Shaka of Garsen, his Galole counterpart Hiribae Saidi and Posta and Nominated MCA Mama Aodho Omara and other passengers on the boat that went missing last night have been rescued and are safe and sound,” part of the statement from ODM Party read.

ODM further noted that, with the help of phone technology (GPRS) and other traditional ways like smoke and ringing of Church bell, they were able to be located and sailed safely to Garsen in the wee hours of the night.

“Everyone is safe. We have spoken with the legislators to confirm their whereabouts,” Further read the statement.

On his part, Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki also confirmed that the two, who got lost on Saturday evening in Tana River while attempting to distribute food to constituents affected by EL Nino had safely been evacuated.

“The boat that went missing in the waters of Tana River has been found. All occupants have been evacuated to safety,” his statement read.

One of the rescued Kenyans was a nominated Member of County Assembly MCA – according to other reliable sources who spoke to Kenyawide.com.

The boat carrying the ODM lawmakers and other passengers ferrying relief food to the people affected by floods in Tana River was, on Saturday December 2, unable navigate through to Mnazini and got stuck around Wema area. Rescue teams were immediately sent including the Red Cross to help in their rescue.
