Sunday, March 19, 2023 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga has responded to the police’ claim that Monday protests will not be allowed to take place.
Speaking on Sunday March 19 noon, a visibly charged-up Odinga faulted the police for outlawing his much-hyped grand march to the Statehouse to reclaim his stolen victory.
“I urge all Kenyan of goodwill to wake up early on Monday and march to the Nairobi Central Business District CBD and thereafter, we’ll march to State House to reclaim our stolen victory,” Raila said on live Tv.
The opposition boss maintained that the planned mass action will go on as earlier planned, urging supporters to show up in Nairobi early enough.
Raila argued that all protesters will be accorded every right enshrined in the Constitution, and no one should be afraid of attending the political activity.
He cautioned the authorities against attempting to stop Kenyans from assembling together for a noble course that concerns their welfare.
Earlier on Sunday March 19, Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei had declared Azimio la Umoja’s Monday March 20 demonstrations, illegal.
Bungei warned that the protests will be treated illegal by law enforcers across the country because the police was served the protest notice late.
“We are in receipt of two requests that came late yesterday and today in the m morning. One was from Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya and another from the Nairobi business community.
“The two groups intended to have peaceful demos. But for public safety none has been granted,” Mr. Bungei updated.
He, therefore, said the two groups will not be allowed on the streets and this is for the safety of the rest of wananchi who need a peace of mind.
