11 Mukumu Girls Hospitalised

Saturday, May 13, 2023 –More students at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School in Kakamega County continued being admitted days after the school re-opened.

In a story by Nation.Africa on Saturday May 13, eleven learners at the institution had been admitted to hospital after falling ill on Friday May 12.

Data from the school indicated that two of the learners had been diagnosed with Malaria as nine had continuous abdominal discomfort.

Doctors and nurses at St Elizabeth Mukumu Mission Hospital are closely monitoring their condition so that to stabilise them.

The principal of the school, Sister Jane Mmbone, confirmed the incident but said there was no cause for alarm.

“In fact, three of the students have been discharged after their condition improved and are back in school,” said Mmbone.

In her defense, she said the other pupils reported back to school before they had fully recovered hence the situation.

So far, a nurse has been deployed at the school to deal with any emergencies involving students who may happen to fall ill.

Mukumu Girls was closed indefinitely on April 3 following an outbreak of an illness linked to contamination of water and food.

By the time of closing it, already, three students and a teacher had lost their lives.

The school now reopening in phases saw Form Four pupils arrive first, accompanied by their parents.
