Wednesday, January 6, 2021 -Polycarp Igathe could be the next Nairobi Governor if the petitions filed in Nairobi Court will sail through.
Plans to see Igathe take over from where his former boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko left are rife through various petitions from city residents.
First to move to court to seek further clarification on the city impasse was Mihango MCA Paul Kados who is seeking proper clarification of whether Mr. Igathe officially resigned or not.
According to his court papers, there is a possibility that Mr. Igathe never tendered any official resignation papers. He also argued that halting of the upcoming by-election was not making sense to Nairobians because in the first place there should be none.
Paul want Mr. Igathe allowed to step in and complete their tenure since they were elected with Mike Sonko as a pair.
Similarly, two other nationalists, Evans Oruenjo who is an advocate and Patrick Mwangi (a voter) have also filed two separate petitions in which they have stated that the Gazette Notice which declared Nairobi Gubernatorial seat vacant was premature and ought to be immediately recalled.
These separate but similar development now brings activities at the city Hall to a standstill for a period that cannot be defined but only with court.
They further reasoned through their papers that any planned by-election slated February 18 was not necessary because Igathe was still the bona fide boss of the city and that his purported resignation was an origin of street rumor and social media.
Igathe’s resignation was not acknowledged neither by the electoral body nor the County Assembly of Nairobi despite the subject having switched to other nation building activities in his own private capacity.
He quit the job on 12th January 2018 after allegedly falling out with Governor Mike Sonko who felt that his job was threatened by Igathe’s presence.
