Friday, June 25, 2021 -There was a sigh of relief for the Harambee Stars shot stopper Patrick Matasi and family after his colleague Michael Olunga took an initiative to help clear his accrued medical bills of sh 429, 812.
The Qatar based Kenyan striker, according to the media, traveled to Kakamega County on Thursday June 24 where Matasi was hospitalised and footed all the bills and left him with another sh 200,000 to help support his family as they struggle to come back to their feet.
“The Michael Olunga Foundation and the betting firm joined hands to clear the medical bills for the Harambee Stars goalkeeper.
“The family is now in recovery and hopefully by your prayers and ours, their lives will regain normalcy,” Olunga stated.
St. Georges Goalkeeper Matasi and his family crashed in their car while traveling to Nairobi 2 months ago.
The car rolled several times at Lesos, Kapsabet area after one tyre encountered a burst. On hospitalisation, wife and son had to go through major surgeries to save their lives. Bills started surging as Matasi took to social media to beg for financial support.
Luckily, the Al Duhail striker, who played with Matasi at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt, said he could not watch from the fences as a brother go through the trauma of medical bills.
Fred Arocho from Radio Africa revealed they had learnt about Matasi’s challenges through Facebook before deciding to check on him with Olunga.
The Michael Olunga Foundation in collaboration with Odi Mtaani, today joined hands at the Kakamega Referral Hospital to assist in clearing the medical bills for the Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
