Sunday, June 25, 2023 –There was witnessed a nightmare traffic snarl up along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway on Saturday June 24.
Reports indicated that there was a long night snarl-up caused by massive trucks using the road amid Naivasha Safari Rally event which winded up yesterday.
Fresh media reports showed that the jam began at the Kikopey, Gilgil, stretching all the way along the busy city bound highway.
Confirming this situation, Gilgil Police boss Francis Tumbo stated that about 2,000 motorists, many of who were at Sleepy Warriors to enjoy the safari rally, joined the highway at once causing the huge snarl-up.
“The traffic jam is heavy but it is moving and police officers are on the highway to ensure that there is no unnecessary congestion,” Mr. Tumbo stated.
This situation forced other impatient motorists to abandon their journey altogether as some had to look for alternative means to continue with their travel.
According to residents, there was a poor planning of the rally event as it caused some activities to stop due to the interference.
The Rally event was flagged off by President William Ruto on June 21, at the Loldia Training School Service Park in Naivasha alongside Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
Also present was Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
