Thursday, June 15, 2024 –Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has reminded the opposition that time they could have acted to save the country from economic challanges was when ‘debt expansion motion’ was presented to the Parliament in 2021.

Responding to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who had expressed concerns on the Finance Bill 2024, Senator Cheruiyot said, the Orange Democratic Movement PODM Party then in bed with Jubilee, overwhelmingly supported the bad motion.

“You remind me of drunkards who are carefree & loud when ordering, then fight the waiters eventually when the bill is brought. The time to save Kenyans from this pain was when the debt expansion motion was presented before the house. A motion that ODM , then in an entanglement with Jubilee, overwhelmingly supported . Hii ya sai ni crocodile tears na utapeli,” he answered Sifuna.

Sifuna had, through his X post, lauded hundreds of Kenyans who had come together online to call out their Members of Parliament over supporting the questionable Finance Bill.

Kenyans through the hashtag #RespectMyHustle started by influential social media figure Amerix, publicly shared the phone numbers of their MPs rallying them against the Finance Bill.

“The civic awakening in Kenya is something to behold. I like that citizens are taking up public spaces to express themselves on key matters. Content creators, comedians, everyone is taking up space hitherto hogged by politicos like me and doing a great job at it! You are calling your MPs finally! Im happy wakenya wenzangu. And before you ask, the standing instruction to ODM Party MPs is to #RejectFinanceBill2024 in total,” Sifuna commended.

The online exchange between Sifuna and Cheruiyot attracted the eyes of hundreds of Kenyans, among them, journalist David Makali, who advised the two to square their supremacy within the walls of the Senate.
