uesday, April 6, 2021 -Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC has finally declared Abdul HaJi new Senator for Garissa County.
In a Gazette Notice issued today Tuesday April 6, the electoral body Chairman Wafula Chebukati noted that his commission had been convinced more than enough that Mr. Abdul Haji – son of the late Senator Haji – had overwhelmingly qualified for their declaration.
“…and declares the person listed in the 1st and 2nd Column to the Schedule duly elected as the Senator, Garissa County,” Chairman Wafula Chebukati said.
When the son of Haji announced his candidacy, several contestants quickly pulled out of the race with elders mobilizing masses to rally support for the young Haji.
He would then thank everyone who saw a potential in him saying it was a humble new begging for him and that he will lead them with dignity and respect.
Mr. Abdul’s smooth walk to the Senate was catalyzed even more when rival political parties all rallied behind him. ODM of Raila Odinga, Jubilee of Uhuru Kenyatta and UDA of Dr. Ruto, in a rare show, all threw their weights behind Mr. Abdul who had been persuaded to vie on the Jubilee Party ticket.
“I’m overwhelmed by your support for coming out in larger numbers. I promise to never let you down and work towards transforming our county,” Mr. Abdul said.
Most Kenyans remember him for his heroic move at Westgate Mall when their was an Alshaabab insurgence. He was among the few Kenyans who risked their lives to rescue those whose lives were at risk.
The businessman confidently stormed into the mall to rescue his elder brother Noordin Haji, now the Director of Public Prosecution, who was part of those holed up in the besieged public mall.
