Monday, July 17, 2023 –Former Azimio running mate Martha Karua has responded to wild claims by economist David Ndii that she once received money from President William Ruto.
Making a counter statement on Sunday July 16, she refuted claims made by David Ndii that she was funded to the tune of millions to run the Linda Katiba Initiative whose main aim was to oppose President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime that had thrown weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative BBI.
Ms Karua, however, clarified that Ndii received funding from Dr. Ruto(then deputy President); but she was not party to that arrangement.
She, therefore, told Ndii to fight his own wars without including other players who were not part of it.
“Towards the end, you did disclose to me that you had received financial support from William Ruto for your case against BBI. I was not a party to the said case and you were already in court when I joined Linda Katiba. You cannot drag me into your money deals then with Ruto,” she stated.
Mr. Ndii had also roped in Activists Boniface Mwangi as being among those who were funded by Ruto to fight the BBI.
Karua, nonetheless, asserted her stand that, together with Mwangi, they did not rely on such external funding. They played their part conscientiously.
The debate went on without anybody, among the three, mentioning how much was in question but, from Ndii’s statement, the monies went into millions.
“Time for revelations. Linda Katiba was formed by myself and Martha with Ruto’s support. We even paid Boniface from WSR campaign money,” Ndii confided.
Karua and Mwangi have since told off Mr. Ndii to stop making remarks that are not true and which cannot be substantiated.
It should be remembered that the Building Bridges Initiative BBI was an initiative of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The initiative’s main role was to tinker with the Constitution so that the one shilling one-man allocation can be achieved.
It was also aimed at bringing to an end ‘the winner takes it all’ political culture during presidential elections.
