Monday, March 27, 2023 – A man and his child in towels joined the march during the second phase of Azimio la Umoja demonstrations in Kisumu City.
Victor Erick and his three-year-old son joined the protests in Kisumu against the high cost of living as they were displaying the placard with the same message.
Asked why he was risking the life of the small boy, Erick simply said he believes in peaceful protests and not the usual stone throwing culture.
“I am doing this in peace. My boy wanted to follow me on the streets. I couldn’t leave him behind because the mother went to work.
I am just walking to pass this message and go back to my home,” he responded to journalists.
Those who made comments described this action in many ways; some lauding the man for his rare peaceful demonstration.
“I’d prefer this than the stone throwing, any day. Agenda: cost of living Mode of protest: Peaceful Message,” a user commented.
On his part, Brian Oduor, noted that it was a good gesture to also allow the kid to be on the streets since it is a show of freedom for everyone.
“Let the kid enjoy the freedom to picket, Kenya my mother, Luo my tribe….My pride my everything….there’s nothing that will make me proud than being a Luo…it’s going down folks stay tune stand up against dictatorship, election theft, tribalism and high cost of living!!” he said.
Others thought he should be arrested and locked in for risking the life of the child. However, by the time of going to the press, the law enforcers gave the man a humble time to picket around the city.
