Wednesday, October 12, 2022 –Television news anchor Trevor Ombija today morning kicked off an online storm after he defended his noisy club located in Kileleshwa area, Nairobi.
This is after he revealed to have offered to soundproof a neighbour’s house following an uproar to shut down his(Trevor) noisy club.
In an undated video clip seen today Wednesday October 12, the Tv star was trying to justify the noise from his club saying he would rather offer to soundproof neighbours’ homes rather than close down his club.
“I have a neighbour who wanted us to shut down a club because I did not give her a landscaping job. We reduced our volume completely and all other neighbours were okay with our attempts, except her; so I offered to go an extra mile of soundproofing as a last resort but she still refused,” Ombija recounted the encounter.
But in sharp rejoinder, Lawyer Nelson Havi made a joke of the statement by reminding the news anchor that the logic in law requires the offender to be the one punished and not the other way round.
“Trevor Ombija, if you are the noisemaker, you shut your mouth. You don’t offer to seal our ears. Noise pollution must be contained,” he quipped.
On his part, the Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai who started the campaign of ridding residential areas off this noise, wondered how Trevor would publicly and confidently reason in the manner in which he had done in the video.
“If you want to see madness in the entertainment industry in this country, see this. The owner of a noisy entertainment joint in Kileleshwa offering to soundproof homes. Do we still have people with brains around? We show you a lease? Sit down fool!” he charged.
A Nairobian by the name Wanjiru laughed off the sentiments from Trevor saying it is unfortunate that a man of that standard could make such illogical remarks in public.
“Yaani Trevor Ombija stood confidently and said he offered to soundproof a neighbour’s house… let that sink in. Not his nightclub located in a residential area WHICH has the noise issues, but someone’s home… mimi I have never heard something so absurd,” Wamjiru wa Ndooro.
“In 2018 Waititu said that the rivers next to his illegal buildings should be moved to prevent their demolition. In 2022 Trevor Ombija is saying that we should soundproof our homes so that his bar can continue polluting our neighborhoods,” Odanga Madung added.
The campaign to shut down or relocate noisy clubs in Nairobi is ongoing with several club owners now already affected.
Most are now blaming Blogger Alai of inciting the government against them.
