Thursday, July 11, 2024 –Cabinet Secretary CS Moses Kuria has revealed how state official around the country take home a half of taxes paid by Kenyans.

Speaking Citizen Tv’s JKL show on Wednesday July 10 night, Mr. Kuria said the country has been suffocating its own people by maintaining a huge wage bill of about 1 million State officials amounting into billions.

“1 million of us who are employed by the government, we take home half of the tax revenues of this country. Half of your day, you work for me, you work for 1 million people. Our public expenditure is going to burn this country, it is going to consume this country,” he shared the worrying details.

SRC Salaries Increment

The CS also told Jeff Koinange that the recent clamour to increase the salaries of senior State officers is uncalled for and that he was among those who openly rejected such an increase when the country was still grappling with economic challenges that need to be sorted out first.

“Recent salary increment from the SRC is what I have not accepted. You all know that I said I won’t accept the implementation,” added the Public Service CS.

And speaking about the forthcoming dialogue between the government and opposition led by both President William Ruto and Azimio boss Raila Odinga in that manner, the Cs noted that it was still a bad mentality for anybody to associate the talks with another Handshake similar to what happened in 2018 between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

“Dialogue is necessary and it is not handshake. A lot of dialogue was happening today. Kenyans out there are meeting their governors with petitions on how they want thing done. A good example is in Nandi where over 300 young people went to meet Governor Sang with a petition. That is what we want in dialogue. Everyone is in that mood,” stated Kuria.

On Ruto’s leadership ability and style, CS Kuria argued that the president will go nowhere unless elections remove him from office. This is because he(Ruto) was democratically elected by the majority and, it is only through the ballot that he can be replaced.

Gen Zs to Register as Voters

The former Gatundu MP advised the young men and women on social media to instead, register in millions for the voter’s card, in readiness to change the current leaders in 2027 if dissatisfied.

“I hear some young people sing Ruto must go, but what they are forgetting is the fact that Ruto didn’t just come, he was elected by over seven million people around the country”.

He has publicly differed with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his DAP-Kenya counterpart Eugene Wamalwa both who have walked away from the ongoing national dialogue.
