Friday, October 14, 2022 –A Samburu lady was arrested ferrying Sandalwood valued at sh 2 million.
Police in Bahati Nakuru County confirmed holding the woman they found carrying the wood inside her black Prado car to a destination yet to be known.
Currently, there is high demand of Sandalwood as it is used as traditional medicine, woodworking, rituals, pharmaceuticals and perfumes.
The rare but special wild species is also facing too much danger from illegal harvesting with police now having been activated to protect it.
The suspect was intercepted and arrested at Maili Saba area along the busy Nakuru-Nyahururu Highway on Wednesday.
Nakuru North Sub County DCI boss, Wesley Langat, said police managed to intercept the vehicle following a targeted tip off from a member of the public.
The car which was loaded with the wood, according to the police, was a Toyota Prado registration Number KDC 299D.
On thorough scrutiny, police would establish that the car was loaded with 500 Kilograms of Sandalwood with an estimated street value of sh 2 million
