Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has slammed President Uhuru Kenyatta on his clamor for a referendum saying it will not bring any meaningful change to common mwananchi.
Talking on Ntv night show on Tuesday August 18, Karua said both Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta were not honest with their constant calls for a referendum and that Kenyans must ignore them at whatever cost.
She added saying the current constitution was quite okay and it only fell short of implementation and that those calling for its amendment were aiming at creating unnecessary positions for a few big men in the country.
“This regime has refused to uphold the rule of law and changing the constitution will not improve anything since the amendments that they may do in the constitution may still not be obeyed,” she said.
She asked the government and its new partner ODM party to push for implementation of the current laws rather than to talk about irrelevant issues that might not be of much use for millions of suffering poor Kenyans.
She also said that from where she sits, what Kenyans wanted was to know what can work and that which cannot before being dragged in referendum debacles.
The former constitutional Minister since losing her government position from the Mwai Kibaki era, tried her hand in Kirinyaga local politics but she was trounced on by her top rival Anne Waiguru who by then was just making her debut in politics.
Her fight through courts to challenge Waiguru’s victory never saw light of day what saw her threaten to take the matter up to the Supreme Court.
