Sunday, April 4, 2021 -Raila Odinga’s top aide has now faulted their Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for rushing to handpick party’s 2022 flag-bearer.
Dennis Onyango has explained that those pushing hard for a Raila Odinga candidacy are overzealous persons because the party is yet to settle on any specific case.
“He insists on not stating his position until after the BBI agenda is finished. Some people in the party think time is running out and may have been behind the name coming up as one of the applicants,” Onyango stated.
He accused both Mr. Sifuna and the head of the National Elections Board (NEB) Catherine Mumma of whipping up emotions of ODM supporters instead of waiting for the right time to come.
He urged the the duo to calm down until the party makes a sound final decision on who should carry the party’s flag in the next elections.
“The former Prime Minister told Sifuna and Mumma to put out a straight statement that what they put out was erroneous. That they have since established that Raila did not apply and leave it there. He and Mumma thought otherwise. They are in a hurry to get a candidate. They think time is running out. Raila thinks otherwise,” Onyango clarified.
Edwin Sifuna kicked up the conversation about Odinga having tendered his nomination papers what turned out to be another lie on April Fools Day.
It also emerged that Statehouse was not comfortable with Odinga making that political move hence their quick intervention through a powerful phone call from President Kenyatta.
According to well–placed sources, this would have punctured the Building Bridges Initiative BBi course which both Odinga and Uhuru had promised to push to the end.
ODM Party’s presidential applications had to end by April 3 but this was again pushed to March 31. But whether deadline or not, Odinga can apply anytime he wants because the back stops at his door.
