Reports reaching this desk on Monday confirmed that the Building Bridges Initiative BBI secretariat has so far collected over 1.5 million signatures.
From their projected target of 4 million signatures, it now obvious that the dedicated team led by MP Junet Muhammed has already saved the document from first fall.
Our sources clarified that the signatures collected so far came from online sources especially the App which was launched last week by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon Raila Amollo Odinga.
“This is a civic duty, not political event. No citizen should be left behind,” Junet Mohamed said adding that the exercise will be ending on Thursday this week.
“Latest, by Thursday we should be done,” Junet announced.
Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Party boss Odinga have both championed for a change in the Constitution saying this would be the only way this country was going to free itself from its ugly past.
They have argued, not once, that to achieve equality across the country and for everyone, the BBI would play a pivotal role in addressing such historical challenge that has been there for decades.
But even as this process goes on, Deputy President William Ruto is yet to make clear which side he is standing and has been sending mixed signals all the time he jumps onto his Twitter Handle to comment about the project.
The process is expected to culminate into a Referendum that will see the country’s Constitution finally subjected to necessary amendments.
