Sunday, June 16, 2024 –Opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga today delivered an official message of condolence to the family and people of Malawi’s Vice President the late Saulos Klaus Chilima.
Odinga represented Kenya on behalf of President William Ruto who did not fly to Malawi for the funeral service for the late VP Saulos Klaus.
“I come here with a very deep heart and I speak on behalf of the people of Kenya. First, I want to convey my condolences on behalf of the President of Kenya, His Excellency William Ruto,” stated Raila.
Interestingly, those who attended the function, received Mr. Odinga’s speech with cheers as he seized the opportunity to deliver Ruto’s brief message.
Mr. Odinga also used the chance to heap praises at the late Chilima saying he was a hardworking resilient politician and leader who knww how to work with the rest of the world.
As Odinga went on, attendants went on with cheers temporarily cutting short his condolence speech.
Likening what had happened in Malawi to what recently happened in Kenya, Odinga told the mourners about the late CDF Francis Ogolla who also lost life in a similar mysterious chopper crash.
And speaking in his capacity as the African Union Commission chairmanship candidate in the upcoming election, the former premier preached unity and fairness when it comes to resources allocation coming from Western establishments.
“We are not asking for charity; we are asking for fairness in the international world markets. We want to see that Africans are able to add value to raw materials, and we are respected,” stated Mr. Raila.
He promised to follow through the matter so that the African continent is compensated for the devastating climate change mostly caused by Western nations.
