Wednesday, April 17, 2024 –The current Nairobi Pay platform was developed by national government entities and not private developers. County Government of Nairobi has clarified.
Speaking on Citizen Tv on Tuesday April 16 night hosted by Yvonne Okwara, Governor Sakaja, while trying to demystify the misleading myth, noted that he used the national government IT technicians in coming up with tax payment systems which he said was working efficiently for the county and that the revenue collection had increased.
Mr. Sakaja dismissed reports that external vendors developed the Nairobi Pay system without a valid contract with the county government.
In response to audit queries raised by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu, the county boss insisted that the platform is a robust system devolved before he came into office adding that this is because governments exists in perpetual.
He further told viewers that he had rejected attempts by various vendors who wanted the county to migrate to another revenue system immediately after he took over the office.
Sakaja elaborated that the Nairobi Pay was a system set up during the period when the national government had transferred functions, the NMS running the county, then.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta together with the Joint National Mapping JNAM developed the system for revenue collection.
The governor said that the system was developed when the County Government had transferred functions to the National Government and the Kenya Revenue Authority KRA was mandated to collect revenue around the city.
